Lorillard, Inc. (Lorillard) is a manufacturer of cigarettes in the United States. Newport, which is Lorillard's flagship brand, is a menthol-flavored premium cigarette brand. In addition to the Newport brand, the Lorillard product line has five additional brand families marketed under the Kent, True, Maverick, Old Gold and Max brand names. These six brands include 44 different product offerings, which vary in price, taste, flavor, length and packaging. Lorillard sells its products primarily to distributors that, in turn, service retail outlets, chain store organizations and government agencies, including the United States Armed Forces. Upon completion of the manufacturing process, the Company ships cigarettes to public distributing warehouse facilities for order fulfillment to wholesalers and other direct-buying customers. As of December 31, 2007, Lorillard had approximately 600 direct buying customers servicing more than 400,000 retail accounts.
