Brown Shoe Company, Inc. (Brown Shoe) operates in the footwear industry. The Company's activities include the operation of retail shoe stores, and the sourcing and marketing of footwear for women, men and children. During the fiscal year ended February 2, 2008 (fiscal 2007), categories of the Company's consolidated footwear sales were approximately 63% women's, 25% men's and 12% children's. Approximately 67% of fiscal 2007, footwear sales were made at retail, with the remaining 33% representing wholesale sales. The Company operates 1,358 retail shoe stores in the United States, Canada and China primarily under the Famous Footwear and Naturalizer names. In addition, through its Wholesale Operations segment, the Company designs, sources and markets footwear to retail stores domestically and internationally, including department stores, mass merchandisers and specialty shoe stores.
